When Is it Time?

Our pet partners have given us so much of themselves and become a part of our families. We all want the best for them, yet we all want them to be with us for as long as possible. There are many things to consider as we think about the end of our beloved pet's lives.

Many thoughts and considerations go through our minds during these moments. All of these thoughts are completely natural, normal, difficult, and personal. They also make it difficult for us to objectively consider the full health of our pet. During this confusing time, it is important to consider as many resources as possible to gain a broad perspective on our pet's true health.

An excellent resource to consult is your primary veterinarian. While they can not make this decision for you, they can give you many options for treatment, and give a medical perspective about their quality of life.

Another source to consider is your friends and family. Ask those close to you that you trust and have spent time with you and your pet. Many times your trusted friends and family can provide a more objective view of your pet's quality of life and also provide support throughout the process.

Finally, on the Resources section of our website, there are two tools you can use to evaluate your pet's quality of life from a different perspective.(https://www.petvetvalet.com/resources). These can also be used to start conversations with your vet, family, and friends.

Ultimately, if you are facing an end of life decision for your pet it will never be an easy one. You must make the decision that feels best for you and your companion. If we can help in any way, please call us.
